About Fort Wayne Metro
At the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission, we believe our differences are a cause for celebration, not discrimination. Through discrimination investigation, education, outreach and training, Fort Wayne Metro empowers residents, giving them all equal opportunity to succeed.
History
In 1952, the Mayor's Commission was established to study and address discrimination issues within our city. In 1967, the Ordinance was amended to create the Fort Wayne Metropolitan Human Relations Commission.
Mission
To enforce civil rights laws and empower the citizens of Fort Wayne through education on diversity and discrimination issues.
Vision
To make Fort Wayne a more diverse and inclusive city where every member of the community has equal opportunity to thrive and flourish and is empowered to assist in the eradication of discrimination.
Staff and Commission
Fort Wayne Metro consists of seven commissioners and twelve staff members. Three commissioners are appointed by City Council, and four commissioners are appointed by the Mayor. The staff is under the supervision of an Executive Director and consists of a staff Attorney, senior investigators, investigators and support staff.
